Gameweek 2, 2013-14

I reckon that you need a  total of around 2000 points to win our league. (I only have two years figures to go on, does anyone have more?)
A rough guide: an average of 50 points a week would deliver 1900 points in 38 weeks. Check? So you need to average more than 50 each week. A normal spread of scores would include some very high and some very low.
Compared to last week there were not as many goals so scores are lower.
Ed (Chi Strollers) is still strolling gloriously along but alongside is one of Steve T's (Little Ted United) two friends, Jeremy, level on points.
Have a look at his team:  4 defenders, 5 midfielders and 1 striker (Benteke). There are some interesting combinations suddenly this season. A new thought process is at work: alongside the usual 4-4-2 or 3- 4- 3 or 3-5-2.
The highest score of the week was from the new team of our 2nd Derby supporter. Peter J's team Super Rams did not have a goal scorer but he did have Baines, Terry and Vidic with clean sheets and bonuses amongst them to help register 53 points.
Joanne's team HelloJo All Stars did have a goal scorer: Negredo of Man City.
He played for 21 minutes and got a goal plus 2 bonus points! "Jammy" - for want of a better non-rude word. And talking about goal-scorers there's that Spanish soldier, Soldado, of jammy Spurs with 2 penalty goals in only 2 weeks.
On to Gameweek 3 ............?

League Table: Gameweek 1

Chi Strollers has done better than Godadobetter! By 11 points. A good start though for Richard, and Jeremy and certainly for Ed.

New faces have done well at 3rd, 6th and 7th in this first week. That's Jeremy, Joanne, and James. And I could add Jack to make a fourth J - and say 'Well done' too in joint fourth place. And then there's ......?

Flocante Furies 6 is highlighted in the screenshot below - that's the way it appears on my webpage and cannot be avoided in a screenshot!!

You can look back at your team for each week of the season through Gameweek History on the right of the points webpage. However, they cannot be accessed after the season's end.

By the way did anyone take a screenshot of the final table of last season?

Gameweek 1

All the teams have performed once and we await the Chelsea v Aston Villa match tomorrow night to complete the Gameweek.  I have gambled on making Cech captain as I hope he will play twice and get two clean sheets. And maybe Hazard and Ivanovich will also play twice. Maybe! The big doubt is because:

Chelsea play Man U on Monday, the bank holiday afternoon and then an extra match v Bayern Munich on Friday 30th so Mourinho may do the hokey cokey and shake it all about for tomorrow night's game.

Why do they have this match? It counts nothing to us in the TBG. I suppose it is to give Platini more time in the limelight.

So, after last night's 4-0 over Newcastle it looks like Man City will again be a power in the land. Aguero, one of my favourite players, seems to have learned to stay on his feet, unlike last season. And I really regret not including Zabaleta in Floculante Furies 6.

Feel free to write something in the comments bloc (click on NO COMMENTS(??) or send me your comments and I will post them here as you need a Google account to do it directly on to the blog.

Carragher

Follow the link to read about Carragher's pitch last night.

I stopped listening to him as his high pitched voice was hard to follow. Maybe I'll have to try harder next time as the above report gives him great praise.

Newcastle seem doomed already. Really sad! Why? Any ideas?

I watched them back in the 1950s with Jackie Milburn, the Robledo brothers from Chile, Joe Harvey at centre-half, Jack Fairbrother in goal, and a Scots left winger called Bobby Mitchell who ran rings around Alf Ramsey when Tottenham came to play at St James Park.

E-mails sent

Dear Tigers,

Today is the first chance to spot the other tigers through the trees. (=To see each other's teams). Chichester Strollers are in the lead along with newcomer James Boucher's team on 49 points. Gameweek 1 will finish after Wednesday's match.

There are some great teams cherry-picked from last season's best players. One team with some bold choices from the new Welsh insurgents.

It looks like a real ding-dong for the rest of the season.

To use the blog as a forum we would all have to sign up to Google. (=have a Google account) We would also all have to sign up to Facebook if we used their site. This is a likely problem. Any ideas?

Could the sponsors of new members let me have email addresses for the new boys/girls?

If you use the blog then save anything you type before you try to send - if you are not a member your message could disappear.

Keep growling.

Kick-off day at last.

Did I do right? To go with van Persie and a shell of a team in order to afford him.

I had to have him in the team because during last season I had taken such a personal dislike to the guy. Watching him on TV was the worst. There he goes again. Another 4 points for Mike's Elojo ('The Eye' in Spanish). Another eyesore!

Wishing that the Dutchman would break a leg was not morally healthy for me so I have decided to start with him. Mind you, it is only 0915 I could change my mind.

Actually, it is not such a shell of a team. There are a couple of peripheral players - they won't score many points but there is no one else cheaper to put in.

I will keep 3 Chelsea players in my Floculante Furies 6 for the whole season. And at least one other manager will do the same, I believe. I shall be looking at your teams so that I can feel superior to those of you who have 2 Man City, 2 Arsenal, 2 etc.

I have left Man City players alone until I find out who the new manager is going to go with. Nick and I believe that Chelsea will start with Lukaku. Who else? He scored more Premier League goals than Ba or Torres. I see the Guardian have two old stagers in their predicted team: Lampard and Essien!
I wish I could have found a place for Santi Cazorla and Benteke, Zabaleta and ......etc

Well, it is all going to happen soon.

My last look at the TBG league members showed that all last season's veterans are in again. Well done! And I am delighted to welcome some new members. I'm sure they will have fun.

Predictions

TBG. Floculante Furies 6 to finish 6th or better and Toni and Barbara - plus another lady manager expected to make her debut - to fill the first three places.

Recruitment - 3 days to the start of the season 2013-14

Tiger Balm Gardens, Fantasy Premier League

With the 2013-14 season about to start this blog is for members of this private league to make comments to each other.

Almost everyone from last season has already rejoined our league on the Premier Fantasy League website but a few more would make it merrier. After four seasons together we would enjoy some new teams amongst us.

And more chance for the rest of us to feel safe from ending up at the bottom of the league.

Here is a recruiting letter you are welcome to copy and send to any golfing friends.

 Dear X,

I was wondering if you and any of your golf pals were interested in joining us in the TBG league for the coming season.

We could do with some new members to keep up interest and in particular to stay near the bottom of the league  - but not yourself, of course, for the latter fate.

I was wondering whether you realised what a great handicap golf is. Did you realise that golf is an anagram of flog. Self-flagellation comes easily to mind.

Premier league fantasy football however offers sheer joy for half an hour a week to assess and choose your eleven for the weekend's matches. Then you sit back to watch a match or two on the telly or your iphone. When the weekend's matches are complete you can view your team's score and that of the other league members and chuckle to yourself as you find how everyone has fared compared to your team where even your full-backs have scored. They get 6 points each for a goal, two more than forwards who get 4. Anyway let's not get too technical here. Hurry to

http://fantasy.premierleague.com/

to enrol and pick your team. Once you have done that you can join our private league Tiger Balm Gardens using this code 181839-93373

I am sure you could manage to persuade one or two football fans amongst your friends to shoehorn a few minutes into the aeons of time they spend revving up their caddy cars. And use it to join in along with yourself to play our fantasy game.

Your ex-mate,

Joe Balmpot
