Remember ...the finish 2013-14 season

This piece was originally an email sent to us all at the end of season 2013-14 by Mike Trainor. It is published here to help us recall how we felt at that time when Richard Boucher won our TBG league. Its glimpses of our enthusiasm and frustration in playing our silly old game should not be lost somewhere in an email Inbox. It was a close finish decided on the last day.

References: Devon Loch was the steeplechaser ridden by Dick Francis, who went on to become a successful writer of detective fiction, and the horse belonged to the Queen. 'Babs' musts be Barbara of Florence Dynamos, "my little Wonder" is Mike's wife, Toni of Little Wonders, El Fangly Dangly is Peter Holland's El Fandi All Stars and 'nephew by marriage' .....enough!

Aide Memoire to the finish of season 2013-14 by Abuelo Gruñon (Granfather Grumpy)

17  points covering the top 4 places must be a record for our league.
What a finish from Richard who must be as drunk as a skunk celebrating this & Sunderland's miraculous escape. He will not be known outside the Trainor clan but I can tell you he is one of the best..... having lived opposite him in the UK for several years. He's a dyed in the wool football fanatic, good player in his time & has a lovely family.....his two boys have also been indoctrinated (well done Bow Wow). He's a useless swimming coach though..... 'cos he couldn't teach me to do the crawl!
My little Wonder came sooooo close for the 2nd year running. Would you believe she had no points for either of her 2 goalkeepers.... Szczesney & Speroni (reserve) 'cos neither played in the last game...what chance was there of both not playing? She missed winning by 3 points & Arsenal kept a clean sheet...!!....ouch...!! I got fed last night so she's taking it well...!
Litlle Ted & Babs reminded me of Gerrard's horrendously important slip & that Grand National horse that did the splits yards from winning. They both must be gutted. Of course there were insignificant little private battles lower down the muck heap. I managed to evil eye my Nephew by marriage by one point which means I can face him at his sister's wedding later in the year. Have already alluded to Super Ram's overall performance. I think he took his eye off the ball whilst hiking the Blue Mountains in NW Spain......much to my relief. Can't have these young upstarts throwing their weight about in their first season.
Mention too must be made for the Head Honcho who made a fairly spectacular late run......to not much avail I have to say ...!! Thanks too to Ed for beating me by 3 points in the last Allotment game....might have won but for that low punch. Congratulations to Fangly Dangly for winning that league by 1 point from Richard. Richard had 3 draws during the season which must be a record. Spare a thought for those crawling around at the bottom of the smellie dung heap....not a pleasant place at all. Must have a serious word with Mr Spencer....I think he should reverse his team name & shove hard.....might wake him up. If Derby get promoted his interest might revive.
As always my thanks to our venerable leader Vernon who is our inspiration.......& now......thank God I don't have to worry about Friday nights. Thanks to you all for providing the competition & hope to see you next season. Personally I think we should all meet somewhere half way between Spain & Newcastle for a helluva get together....& presentation .........somewhere like the Dordogne.......how about it Flo...!!  they call it bonding....!
